2015 US Embassy Electrical /Building Engineer Recruitment

The U.S. Consulate in Lagos is seeking to employ a suitable and qualified candidate for the below position in the facilities maintenance section:



Job Title: Electrical /Building Engineer

Location: Lagos

Position Grade: FSN- 10/FP-5 Step 5

Work Hours: Full-time; 40 hours/week

Basic Function of the Position
The incumbent serves as the Electrical/building Engineer to the U.S Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria. As part of the facilities maintenance Office, the incumbent reports directly to the maintenance Supervisor and serves as the principal authority and technical advisor on all electrical equipment operation, maintenance, repair and minor construction of the U.S Consulate. 

S/he directly supervises two Non-Residential Foreman, six (6) Generator Technicians and six (6) multi-trade technicians. This position is responsible for oversight of the U.S Consulate government-owned properties, electrical equipment and components that keep the building operational and functional, including all electrical powered generating equipment and components.

Position Requirements
  • Note: All applicants MUST address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criterion or the application will not be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field is required.
  • Three years of progressively responsible, job related experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering that includes two years of supervisory experience in maintenance operations, journeyman electrician, supervisory maintenance inspection or planning and estimating experience is required.
  • Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/ Reading/Writing in Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo Language is required.
  • Level IV (Fluent) Speaking /Reading/Writing in English is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Comprehensive professional knowledge of the mechanical or electrical engineering field and ability to acquire professional engineer’s license is required.
  • Knowledge of building/ground maintenance trades operating practices and procedures including local construction practices, U.S Construction codes and fire and life safety standards/practices is required.
  • Proficiency in preparing plans, specifications, technical drawings and interpretation of plans and specifications prepared by others and ability to understand highly complex information in multiple technical disciplines is required. Proficiency will be tested.

Selection Process
When fully qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

Additional Selection Criteria
  • Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  • Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  • Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  • Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  • Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
Remuneration 

OR - Ordinarily Resident - N 6,446,680 p.a. (Starting basic salary) Position Grade: FSN-10

In addition to the basic salary, all allowances will be paid in accordance with the Mission Local Compensation Plan.

NOR - Not Ordinarily Resident - AEFM-US$57,270.00, EFM-U$49,311.00, Starting Salary) p.a. Position Grade: FP-5/5
