Following the sack of 344 lecturers and other members of staff of Rivers State Polytechnic by the state governor, Nyesome Wike, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the action, saying it was ill-motivated and therefore should be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.
According to a statement issued yesterday in Abuja and signed by its President, Comrade Tijani Usman, called on the governor to rescind his decision in the interest of progress.
The Students' body stated that it was regrettable that the governor who is supposed to champion the cause of education haven served as Minister of State and substantive Minister of Education would allow political sentiments prevail over administration of the sector.
Usman stressed: "Nigerian students condemn in totality the action taken by the Rivers State governor as it lack any moral and rational justification. Sacking 344 lecturers and other staff of the institution in one fell swoop under the guise that their employment did not follow due process is a demonstration of administrative rascality.
"It is sad that rather than concentrates on providing dividends of democracy as promised, he is busy carrying out vengeful vendetta
