The atmosphere at the Agip Recitall Hall, MUSON Centre was electrifying over the weekend as Nigeria’s hip-hop icon 2face Idibia launched the new National Malaria theme song titled “Play your part.” The occasion was the launch
of Newman Street Season 2.
The song - featuring Sani Danja and Eve B - was part of activities to support the National Malaria Eradication Programme’s commemoration of the World Malaria Day 2015 tagged “Invest in the future, defeat malaria YOUR ACTION COUNTS.”
Abimbola Fashola, wife of Lagos State governor, was represented by Yemi Olatunji-Bello. Also, Khaliru Alhassan, minister of health was ably represented.Other guests at the event included representatives of the development partners, NGOs, banking, oil and gas sectors and advertising agencies. Also, a formidable delegation from the academia that included Ralph Akinfeleye, former head of department, Department of Mass Communication, UNILAG, graced the occasion.
Newman Street, a TV series introduced in 2014, has become an instant hit with positive reviews from viewers and movie critics. The series showcased the twists and turns of life in an urban slum as each new episode brought tales of suspense, love, betrayal and intrigues with hilarious moments. Newman Street Season 2 reveals what the future holds for Andy, Usman, Mama and Papa Ejiro and other regulars in the drama series.
The series narrates Andy’s journey to stardom with its ups and downs. It also tells the story of the contrasting experiences and struggles of Usman and Salamatu, a typical young couple starting a family; and Mama and Papa Ejiro an older couple, striving to improve their quality of life and intimacy. The hilarious character of Akpos and Amerika, the sojourners in Newman Street’s, will definitely ensure the viewers have a swell time watching the highly informative, educative and entertaining series.
The Season 2 features internationally acclaimed celebrities, ace actors and actresses like Bimbo Akintola, Fred Amata, Edmond Enaibe, Saka, 2face, among others.
According to the producers, Newman Street is creatively scripted to mirror the true urban life while addressing key health concerns facing all Nigerians, like malaria and family planning. It is designed to help lift the spirit of Nigerians with non-stop entertainment while providing correct information to deal with everyday individual and family issues.
Newman Street TV drama airs on African Independent Television (AIT) on Mondays by 7.30pm. It is also shown on the Entertainment Channel (105) of the NTA StarTimes bouquet on Sundays by 8.30pm (with a repeat broadcast on Fridays by 8.00pm).
